Common questions
Can you build a deck around an above-ground pool?
Yes — it's one of the most-requested builds in cottage country. The deck must be framed as its own structure, never bearing on the pool wall, with a maintenance gap and safe guard around the water side. Enclosure rules still apply to the access points.
What decking is best around a pool?
Lighter-colour capped composite or PVC with a wet-traction rating. Dark boards get uncomfortably hot in full sun, and uncapped wood needs constant refinishing in a splash zone.
Does a pool deck need a railing?
Two rules apply: the Building Code guard rule (over 24 inches above grade) and your local pool enclosure bylaw, which can require self-closing gates and minimum barrier heights regardless of deck height. We design to whichever is stricter.
