Every deck we build, spec'd like a drawing set
Six core builds. One standard of structure. No mystery lumber, no bolted-on afterthoughts.

Built like a structure, finished like furniture
The parts you never see decide how long a deck lasts. This is the section drawing every Signature deck is built to — and what each layer is doing.
- Footings below frost Poured piers below 4'-0" so the deck never heaves — deck blocks on grade don't pass permit, and they don't last.
- Engineered posts & beams Sized for real loads — snow in Blue Mountain terms, hot tubs in point-load terms — and documented in the drawings.
- Joists taped, 16" o.c. Joist tape on every top edge keeps water out of the frame — the cheapest decade of extra life you can buy.
- Ledger lagged and flashed The #1 cause of deck failure is a ledger that was never flashed. Ours is bolted, flashed, and inspectable.
- Hidden fasteners, framed edges Boards picture-framed, fasteners hidden, fascia mitred — the furniture part.
- Guards planned, not retrofitted Post locations and stair guards are in the drawing before framing starts — to OBC 9.8.8, at 36" or 42" as the height requires.
From assessment to rebuild
Drag the divider. Every replacement starts with an honest structural assessment — loose boards, missing guards, unflashed ledgers — and ends with a deck built to the section drawing above.
York Region to Georgian Bay
Two very different markets, two very different builds — and we design for both.

Complete deck builds with railing included
For deck projects that require guards or stair railings, railing is included in the project scope. We work with Deck Railing Toronto for glass and aluminum railing installation, so the deck and railing are planned together instead of treated like two separate jobs.
Depending on the design, railing options can include:
- Black aluminum picket railings
- Glass deck railings
- Frameless glass railings
- Framed glass railings
- Porch railings
- Stair railings
- Custom railing layouts for decks, porches, stairs, and backyard builds
We work with Deck Railing Toronto to install the glass and aluminum railings used on our deck projects. This helps keep the railing layout, stair guards, post placement, and final deck design coordinated from the start.
In Collingwood and The Blue Mountains, glass and manufactured guards require engineer-stamped drawings. Because the railing is planned with the deck from the start, those stamped details are ready at permit time.
Five steps to a real number
An app-style estimate flow — your configurator spec carries straight into it.
Straight answers
Do I need a permit to build a deck?
Usually, yes. Across York Region and GTA North, a permit is typically required once a deck is attached to the house or the surface sits above roughly 24 inches (600 mm). Collingwood also requires a zoning certificate before a deck permit, and Collingwood and The Blue Mountains require engineer-stamped drawings for glass or manufactured guards. We prepare the drawings and handle the permit process for every build that needs one.
Composite or cedar — which is better for this climate?
Both work; they age differently. Capped composite holds its colour and needs washing, not refinishing, which is why it dominates cottage and rental properties. Cedar looks and smells like nothing else but needs re-oiling every couple of years to keep its tone. Pressure-treated is the budget workhorse. We build all of them and will give you the honest trade-off for your site and sun exposure.
What areas do you serve?
York Region and GTA North — Markham, Newmarket, Stouffville, Aurora, Richmond Hill, Vaughan, King City, East Gwillimbury, Georgina — plus the Georgian Bay corridor: Collingwood, The Blue Mountains, Wasaga Beach, Barrie, and Innisfil, including cottage and chalet properties.
Is railing included with my deck?
Yes — for deck projects that require guards or stair railings, railing is included in the project scope. We work with Deck Railing Toronto for glass and aluminum railing installation, so the deck and railing are planned together instead of treated like two separate jobs. Post locations, blocking, and stair guards are framed into the deck from the drawing stage.
How does the estimate work?
Start the estimate flow with photos of your yard and your rough goals — property type, deck type, materials, features. We review it and send back the clearest next step before booking a site visit, so nobody's time is wasted on a build that isn't a fit.
How much does a deck cost?
We don't publish blanket square-foot prices, because a ground-level pressure-treated deck and a raised composite deck with glass guards are entirely different builds. The estimate flow gives us enough to respond with a realistic range for your specific scope — before anyone commits to a site visit.
When can you build?
We build from early spring through late fall, and footings-and-framing can start earlier in the season than most people expect. Permit lead times — not weather — are usually the schedule driver, which is why the drawing stage starts well before build season.
